| The Rainbow Project 1 is produced by and about persons who have mental illness and are working on their recovery. Some of the disorders you will hear about are Manic Depression(bipolar depression), Major Depression, paranoid schizophrenia, split personality disorder. You will go through their illness from onset to recovery. Describing their different treatments and mis-diagnoses, stumbling blocks as well as their hopes and dreams. If you're looking for information about your diagnosis, look in The Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV). It is used by mental health professionals to diagnose the many types of mental illness. The national NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) website is a good resource for persons with mental illness and for the many medicines used to treat their illness. . We hope to eradicate the isolation and frustration that mental illness stigma creates. With better public awareness of the biological basis for these diseases we can make some headway. By you listening to this video we hope your understanding us will grow, we are people first and not a label . You will see how we are recovering from mental illness. We are family members. We are your neighbors. We understand because we've been there. We are there every day....just like you. We support and encourage each other, we educate and inform. Our continuing objectives are to eradicate mental illness and improve the quality of life of those affected by these diseases. To those ends we educate. This video is an excellent opportunity for you to learn about mental illness from those who have experienced it in their own life. |
